Eastern Islands Smallholder Farming Systems and Livestock Development Project - IFAD
The objective of the project was to increase the incomes of poor rural households in the three provinces.
Households in the project area were in great need of draught animals in order to extend the area under cultivation, prepare the land and free up family labour for more productive activities. Cattle and goats were distributed to households (though credit-in-kind arrangements), and livestock-raising groups were formed. Farmers also chose among a number of options for improving their farms and production, including training and grants for equipment.
