Fisheries and Agricultural Diversification Programme - IFAD
Fisheries and Agricultural Diversification Programme
The objective of the programme is to improve incomes and living conditions of poor farming and fish-processing households through increased productivity and profitability. The programme will help producers and processors on selected islands raise the quality of their products and gain access to high-value niche markets. Under IFAD’s direct supervision it will introduce an innovative form of public-private partnership, establishing three franchise companies: for fresh farm products, for processed farm products and for processed fish. Professional management teams will run the franchise companies, which will be funded by the government, IFAD and private sector partners.
The programme will support the development of value chains. It will provide credit and other financial services to the producers or processors and to the companies for their inputs and marketing needs. And it will provide support for programme management, working with the government to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources.
