Rural Economic Growth and Employment Project - IFAD
The Rural Economic Growth and Employment Project (REGEP) aims to reduce poverty and build resilience in Jordan by enhancing employment opportunities and improving the competitiveness of small-scale farmers and rural enterprises. The project also seeks to strengthen value chains for high-value crops that require less water, aligning with Jordan’s national priorities for sustainable agricultural development.
The project’s activities are organized into two main components:
- Value chain and enterprise development: This component strengthens the capacity of small-scale farmers and rural micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to access high-value domestic and export markets. It promotes climate-smart agricultural practices and facilitates integration into efficient value chains through training, certification and market linkages.
- Rural finance: This component enhances access to financial services, supporting farmers and rural entrepreneurs through tailored credit products and financial training while ensuring sustainable investment in productive activities.
REGEP is national in scope, with an initial focus on the rural areas of Ajloun, Jerash, Balqa, Madaba and Mafraq, which have a high concentration of poor and vulnerable households. In line with the Government’s Poverty Reduction Strategy 2013-2020, the project will target both rural households already below the poverty line and vulnerable rural households with high risk of falling below it. REGEP directly benefits small-scale farmers, rural entrepreneurs, and unemployed or underemployed youth and women, empowering them with the tools to generate income and secure sustainable livelihoods.
