The China-IFAD South-South and Triangular Cooperation Facility was established in February 2018 and is the first Facility in IFAD dedicated to SSTC.

Its goal is to exchange expertise, knowledge and resources, and promote business-to-business links and investments across developing countries, with the broad aim of enhancing agricultural productivity, incomes, and livelihoods of poor people living in rural areas.

The Facility will focus on smallholder agriculture and rural development, with specific attention to poverty reduction, fighting malnutrition and promoting rural youth employment in developing countries. It is a key instrument to help advance the objectives of IFAD’s SSTC strategy for promoting rural transformation, which is critical for meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Facility’s five priorities are to:

  • Facilitate South-South knowledge exchange
  • Embed SSTC in IFAD operations
  • Establish operational SSTC partnerships between IFAD Member States
  • Promote rural South-South investments
  • Strengthen cooperation in human resources
