Indigenous Peoples and climate financing: Experiences from IPAF
This report outlines success stories and lessons learned in climate finance for Indigenous Peoples through the Indigenous Peoples Assistance Facility (IPAF).
Indonesia has approximately 20 million hectares of peatlands, which provide unique ecosystem services and a source of livelihood to rural populations. These peatlands store an estimated 46 gigatons of carbon—as much as 14 percent of all global soil carbon. Despite the importance of these ecosystems, they face a growing number of threats, including logging, fires, and drainage.
This brief describes how an IFAD-Global Environment Facility project promotes sustainable peatland management, secure carbon stocks, and conservation of biodiversity, while improving the living standards of local communities.
