Programmatic Insights from a Project-level Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (Pro-WEAI) Baseline Study in Maharashtra, India

In Maharashtra, India, IFAD’s Gender Transformative Mechanism in the Context of Climate Adaptation (GTM), funded by the Gates Foundation, has supported the IFAD-financed Nav Tejaswini project in adapting and validating the Project-level Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (pro-WEAI) tool to diagnose disempowerment, design strategies for improvement, and monitor empowerment through twelve indicators spanning three domains.

This report presents findings of the baseline data collected under Nav Tejaswini, while also exploring the broader context of gender equality and women’s empowerment nationally, highlighting barriers to social and economic empowerment amid progress in governmental commitment.
