Storybook: The Year the Cold Didn’t Come
Through this storybook, IFAD seeks to highlight the impact of climate change in Lao PDR, where those affected the most are rural people, especially women, children and ethnic minorities.
Climate change is increasing salinity in sub-Saharan Africa, contributing to crop failure and impacting farmers' livelihoods. Salinity stems from improper irrigation, waterlogging, over-pumping, rising sea levels and seawater intrusion.
RESADE is improving food security, agricultural productivity and incomes of poor smallholder farmers in salinity-affected areas in seven countries. It does so by introducing salt-tolerant crops, using suitable agronomic management practices, developing value chains for new crops, building capacity, influencing national development policies, providing good quality seeds.
