Highlights from the Crisis Response Initiative in Malawi
This document highlights the main results of the Crisis Response Initiative-funded activities in Malawi, including using the innovative Mbeya fertilizer.
Like many development partners, IFAD has found that innovative free- standing development projects alone are not an effective vehicle for eradicating poverty at scale: they must be part of a longer-term process that can sustain learning and scaling up.
Confronted with the large-scale problem of reducing rural poverty that it is mandated to address, and with the limited resources available from official development assistance (ODA), IFAD is compelled to increase the impact of every dollar it invests in agriculture and rural development.
For this reason, scaling up the results of successful development initiatives is not just another buzzword, but rather an overarching priority that directly supports the achievement of IFAD’s mandate.
