Boosting sustainable farming with bamboo
On this episode, we embark on a journey to the Amazon rainforest, where rural communities are cultivating a previously undocumented native bamboo species.
A group of courageous Guatemalan women set off in 2010 to form their own farming cooperative, "4Pinos" after facing discrimination in the men's cooperative. IFAD supported this endeavor, which has now grown to employ nearly 500 women, and is a completely self-sustainable business. The women's produce is also now exported beyond Guatemala's borders to international distributors.
