India: Nutrition through innovation

Estimated reading time: 1 minute

An innovative solution is improving nutrition in rural areas of Madhya Pradesh, India, where 42% of children suffer from malnutrition.

Technical experts of the Seven Days Seven Plots programme, an IFAD-supported project, are teaching farming women to adopt a rotation in the produciton of vegetables for home consumption.

Thanks to the Seven Day Seven Plots programme they can have fresh vegetables available every day.

On top of that, by using the colours of the Indian flag as a mnemonic, the programme is also teaching women how to cook these vegetables, so that each meal provides a balanced source of carbohydrates, proteins, fibres and minerals.
