Knowledge-sharing event

Presenters: Ms Marie Gaarder, Manager, IEG Public Sector Evaluation and Mr John Heath, Senior Evaluation Officer in IEG's Public Sector Unit (World Bank)

The Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) of the World Bank has recently released its second evaluation on learning and results in World Bank operations. This report follows an evaluation titled: Learning and Results in World Bank Operations: How the Bank Learns, which was presented at IFAD in November 2014.

Ms Marie Gaarder, Manager, IEG Public Sector Evaluation and Mr John Heath, Senior Evaluation Officer in IEG's Public Sector Unit and one of the leaders of this evaluation, presented the findings and insights from this second evaluation.

Learning and knowledge are treated as parts of a whole and are presumed to be mutually reinforcing. The evaluation program addresses the following overarching questions:

  • How well has the World Bank learned in its lending operations?
  • What is the scope for improving how it generates, accesses, and uses learning and knowledge in these operations?

The session was attended by close to 50 participants and 50 were following this event through Web Stream.

IOE thanks participants for their valuable inputs.
