Case Study

Behavioural science recommendations for the design of gender transformative IFAD programmes

This study examines how behavioural barriers and biases perpetuate the gender gap and explores how behavioural science can reduce such barriers and biases.

Recommendations are grouped around three objectives: promoting the economic empowerment of women, strengthening women's participation in the decision-making process, and redistributing the burden of domestic work.

Suggestions are presented for design and implementation of projects in Ecuador and Argentina, following the framework outlined in the Joint Programme on Gender Transformative Approaches for Food Security, Improved Nutrition and Sustainable Agriculture (JP GTA), implemented by FAO, IFAD and WFP in collaboration with and through financial support from the European Union.

Guidance is given on how to assess the impact of these measures on rural populations.
