Development as transformation: Shifting mind sets?

The results agenda - using results for better accountability and for improved aid effectiveness - has had a significant impact on the way development programmes are designed, delivered and assessed, and has changed the way some development partners think and act. Results have helped demonstrate the value for money of external finance and have increased accountability to those who fund and invest in development programmes. But, as we take on a much more ambitious set of Global Goals, does ‘the results agenda’ still fit the purpose?

Many of the challenges in development today require approaches and solutions that go beyond official development assistance and beyond the comparative advantage of individual development actors. There is an acknowledged complexity in tackling the underlying drivers of poverty and inequality, to leaving no-one behind and to working in contexts that are fragile or conflict affected. Short-term results thinking is increasingly being eclipsed by more ambitious agendas focusing on long-term, transformative change.

Join us for a learning event that will discuss what this means for development agencies and how they think about, and measure, results.

Dr Alison Evans, Chief Commissioner of the UK’s Independent Commission on Aid Impact will make a keynote speech, followed by an open discussion amongst panellists and the audience.

Périn Saint-Ange, Associate Vice-President of the Programme Management Department, and Ashwani Muthoo, Director, Global Engagement, Knowledge and Strategy Division  will represent IFAD in the conversation.
