GC46 interactive session - Youth and agriculture: Accelerating a Just Transition towards food security

Time: 9.45 – 11.15 (CET)

Young people play a vital role in transforming food systems and accelerating a “Just Transition”. Leveraging young people’s fresh perspectives, innovation, and energy can spur inclusive green work opportunities in agrifood systems.

Yet, within the agricultural sector, young people are three times less likely to find a job and are often underemployed. Rural youth lack access to key resources, while climate change is exacerbating food insecurity and making the outlook bleak for young people’s career paths.

During this session, youth delegates will share their perspectives and engage in a Q&A session with the audience.

Moderator: Qasa Alom, BBC Journalist

Panellists:

  • Elizabeth Wathuti, Green Climate Fund Youth Champion
  • Dali Nolasco Cruz, young Indigenous woman from the Nahua tribe, Mexico
  • Fatima Amaguar, Youth Grass-Roots Approach, Morocco Farmers’ organizations
  • Acherif Hamid Zagalo, Technical Secretary of Professional Organizations, Chad Pastoral Platform
