The Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework: Placing Food Systems and Rural People at the Centre of Accelerated Action

Time: 14:00-15:30 (CEST) | Register here

Biodiversity and the preservation of nature are essential to realizing the 2030 agenda and Paris Agreement. Yet, biodiversity loss is still on the rise. From tackling pollution to protecting coral reefs, the international community did not fully achieve any of the 20 Aichi biodiversity targets agreed in Japan in 2010 to slow the loss of the natural world.

A Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework is expected to set out an ambitious plan to transform society’s relationship with biodiversity and to ensure that, by 2050, the shared vision of living in harmony with nature is fulfilled.

In the lead up to COP-15, this IFAD-hosted event will convene a range of stakeholders to discuss:

  • why actions taken so far have not achieved targets, focusing on the role of finance.
  • how the Global Biodiversity Framework addresses lessons learned.
  • what can be done to address gaps and failures, and accelerate investment.
  • the uptake of the Framework among relevant stakeholders.
