Joint visit of UN food agency heads to Niger

14 September 2018

In August 2018, the heads of the three Rome-based food agencies travelled to Niger to strengthen their joint efforts to reduce poverty and hunger.

By targeting the same regions and the same vulnerable populations together the three agencies have recovered degraded land and developed it through the distribution of improved seeds. They have introduced water harvesting and storage systems, and have trained farmers in improved production techniques and facilitated access to markets.

The complementary activities of the agencies have narrowed the gap between humanitarian and long-term development assistance, so that farmers can be more resistance to shocks and communities have access to nutritious foods and can build their livelihoods.

Watch the video to find out how IFAD, FAO and WFP are working together with the Government of Niger to achieve Agenda 2030.

On 14 September representatives of the FAO Council, IFAD Executive Board and WFP Executive Board and representatives of all other Member States of the three RBAs are involved in a informal joint meeting.
