Nothing unites us more than our universal need for food
Whether in New York or Rome or a small farm in Kenya, we all want to sit down with our families and friends at the end of the day and share some well-deserved sustenance.
Recipes for Change wants to be part of that coming together. By taking part, your main meal will be something bigger than just a gathering of your nearest and dearest.
This is a series of recipes from developing countries which bring to you a taste of someone else's life. It gives you the chance to cook the same meal as the Hong family in the Mekong Delta or Olive Bibutsuwahoze and her family in eastern Rwanda.
Spotlight on the effects of climate change
But it's not just about the food on your plate. Recipes for Change looks at the threats these communities face through climatic changes that affect some of the essential ingredients used in their main meal of the day. It shows you how IFAD, through the Adaptation for Smallholder Agriculture Programme, is working with farmers to adapt to the very real impacts of climate change in their communities.
Partnering with rural communities in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and celebrity chefs from those regions, IFAD and CCAFS are releasing a series of videos that show how we are reintroducing positive change into the recipes of up to eight million people:
- One in three people are dependent on smallholder farms for their food security
- Smallholders are more often located on marginal lands where the impacts of climate change are more strongly felt, reducing crop yields and incomes
- Small farmers need to adapt to climate change impacts now
- Adaptation to climate change for smallholders can increase food security and income
