The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly
23 - 29 June 2018
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly meets every four years, bringing together representatives from all 183 member countries at ministerial level, as well as GEF Agencies, scientific and technical experts and civil society. The event is a rare opportunity to discuss some of the world’s most complex environmental challenges and set shared priorities within the context of sustainable development.
The Sixth GEF Assembly will take place from 23-29 June in Da Nang, Vietnam against the backdrop of the continued deterioration of the world's environment.

Genetic diversity is disappearing at an alarming rate and the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has surpassed the symbolic threshold of 400 ppm – the highest level in at least three million years and up more than 40 per cent from pre-industrial times.
Some of these earth systems have been pushed into a zone where we face a high risk of irreversible damage.
To get on a path to a sustainable future, the consortium of GEF agencies must face the scale and urgency of the threats facing the planet, and the emerging opportunities to accelerate and scale up positive impacts, focusing on integrated actions that deliver multiple environmental benefits.
IFAD has been a GEF Executing Agency since 2004, having programmed about US $153 million, and leveraged a further US $615 million, to reach more rural people in degraded and vulnerable environments.
