IFAD at the Youth at Heart Virtual Forum
02 November 2020
The engagement of youth is vital to building inclusive and sustainable societies. In the Middle East and Africa, youth make up the majority of the population. In Africa alone, 12 million young people enter the labour market each year, while only 3 million new jobs become available. Meanwhile, young refugees in many parts of the world often struggle to access work and education. Situations like these present serious challenges - but also immense opportunities.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up the Youth at Heart virtual forum to address these issues. By hearing from young people and discussing their needs and ideas with partners and stakeholders, we can offer the rising generation better prospects.
IFAD’s discussion on jobs for youth in the green economy will feature young participants in IFAD-funded projects. It will serve as a space for mutual learning about good practices for boosting youth entrepreneurship and self-employment in the green economy.
Participants will reflect on the main challenges and opportunities related to embracing green agriculture, green job creation, and the involvement of rural youth.
