Programme Officer for the East and Southern Africa Division
I have worked as a Country Programme Officer since 2011, but before that I worked in IFAD-funded projects in Kenya. When I was recruited to work at IFAD I was overjoyed. Starting as a national officer and now participating at the international level has been great - blending hard facts with experience drawn from the field and spicing them up was quite a contribution.
IFAD's work targets the rural poor and my main job is to ensure that the activities and interventions actually benefit the rural poor. I have experience in working with rural communities to ensure that they are able to participate and have their views heard. Seeing people's happiness when they can sustain themselves, take their children to school and women and youth who are able to participate in development makes me most gratified.
My guiding principle is the passion and the desire to achieve good results all the time. My background has been on community development and I find what I do and education background are aligned. Because when you do community development you want people to grow, develop and get rid of poverty and IFAD is an organization that deals with exactly that.
