Agricultural Credit Project

Agricultural Credit Project

Almost all crops in Ethiopia are produced in the highlands, and farmers there depend on oxen for draught power. To address production problems, the project financed the purchase of work oxen in areas where land was not being cultivated because of a shortage of draught capacity. The project also provided credit for the purchase of dairy heifers, to increase the production of meat and milk, and for the construction of grain and oil mills and storage facilities. With additional draught power, farmers were able to increase the amount of land they cultivated and expand crop production.
