Smallholder Agricultural Credit Project

Smallholder Agricultural Credit Project

The IFAD-initiated project was supported by the World Bank. It instituted a coordinated, national smallholder credit system, which formed the basis for expansion to a system of rural finance that promotes savings and credit and considers the special credit needs of the poorest rural people.

The project introduced The Malawi Mudzi Fund, a pilot financial scheme for small-scale farmers, serving their needs for credit and savings and enabling them to engage in small, off-farm enterprises to improve their income.
