One of the main objectives of the project was to help smallholders increase their productivity. It also aimed to help improve household food security and increase the incomes of farmers and herders in drought-prone areas affected by soil erosion and land degradation. The project:

  • helped reduce poverty
  • raised awareness about environmental preservation
  • introduced proven technology for soil and water conservation and rehabilitation of degraded land
  • improved farming practices
  • developed small-scale irrigation
