Livestock and Pasture Development Project

The Livestock and Pasture Development Project will work in selected districts of the Khatlon Oblast, which is one of the poorest regions of the country. It expects to benefit some 22,400 poor households from 100 villages, and will target:
  • smallholder livestock farmers
  • private veterinary service providers and small-scale entrepreneurs with the potential to provide services to smallholder farmers
  • woman-headed households and women belonging to poor households
The project’s development objective is to increase the nutritional status and incomes of targeted households by sustainably enhancing livestock productivity.

In particular, the project will focus on institutional development, livestock and pasture development and income generation for women.

The project is in line with the Government of Tajikistan's Poverty Reduction Strategy 2010-2012, the National Development Strategy 2006-2015 and the National Food Security Programme. Project objectives and proposed activities are also fully in line with the IFAD Strategic Framework 2007-2010 and the IFAD Targeting Policy.
