Rural Women's Development and Empowernment Project

This project builds on the Tamil Nadu Women’s Development Project, which targeted women exclusively and introduced microfinance schemes as a principal instrument for women’s empowerment. Cofinanced by the World Bank, this project aims to promote women’s economic development, while creating an environment favourable to social change as a way of improving women’s living conditions.

In 35 districts in Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh states, IFAD supports project activities that establish self-help groups and improve their access to and control over resources. The project promotes the development of income-generating activities and access to basic financial services, as well as access to health care, education and other services.
