Second Environment Programme Support Project
The Second Environment Programme Support Project was the second phase of execution of the National Environmental Action Plan and had the following objectives:
- To halt the process of environmental degradation
- To promote sustainable use of natural resources, especially soil, forest cover and biological diversity
- To create the conditions for integrating environmental issues into the country’s macroeconomic and sectoral management
The direct beneficiaries were among the poorest groups in the population – essentially households suffering from chronic food insecurity, landless households and those with no livestock. Special attention was paid to households deriving their income from the exploitation of local resources. IFAD contributed essentially to initiatives for the sustainable management of soil and water resources, stressing the beneficiaries’ participation in implementation of the project.
