Haor Infrastructure and Livelihood Improvement Project - Climate Adapation and Livelihood Protection
This project will help reduce poverty in five districts of the Haor basin: Netrakona, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishorganj and Sunamganj. The target group includes poor rural people; smallholder farming households with less than 2.5 acres of land; small fishing households; women from poor households; and small traders and intermediaries in local markets.
The project aims to improve road infrastructure, build local capacity and expand access to natural resources, technology and markets. Improved infrastructure will reduce transportation time and costs, while increasing the volume of marketed goods. It will also facilitate access to health centres and schools.
Other project objectives include increasing fish yields and aquatic biodiversity, enhancing the productivity of smallholder farms and reducing their vulnerability to adverse weather conditions. In addition, the project will secure employment for poor rural women under infrastructure improvement contracts, and it will support women's income-generating activities.
