Head of Hub and Country Director, West and Central Africa

Matteo Marchisio

Matteo Marchisio is the Head of the Regional Hub for the Sahel and the Country Representative in Senegal for the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), based in Dakar, Senegal.

His responsibilities include leading sub-regional teams to manage IFAD programmes in the region; promoting strategic partnerships for inclusive rural development, food security and sustainable food systems in Senegal and in the Sahel; and providing strategic and technical leadership for IFAD programmes in Senegal and the Sahel.

Marchisio was previously the IFAD Representative for China, Republic of Korea and DPRK, and the Head of the East Asia Regional Hub and South-South Cooperation Centre. He was also the IFAD Country Programme Manager for China and Mongolia, and for Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran.

Before joining IFAD, he worked as Environmental Specialist at the World Bank; as Climate Change Specialist at UNDP India; and as Programme Officer at UNDP Ethiopia, as well as roles in academia and the private sector.

Marchisio holds an MSc in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics and an MSc in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi University, Milan.
