How to apply for a job at IFAD

Before you start, please read the following instructions carefully. The application process will take you approximately 5-10 minutes once you have your IFAD Personal History Form ready on hand.

Important notes:

  • You can only apply to advertised positions using the Personal History Form.
  • Applications received through other channels such as email, fax, or mail will not be considered.
  • You must be a citizen of a member country of IFAD to be eligible for employment.
  • Vacancy closing dates are based on UTC/GMT +1 hour (Rome, Italy time) and applications must be submitted by 23:59 hrs of the closing date.

  • Download and complete the IFAD Personal History Form
  • Paste the cover letter, lists of publications, etc. into the PHF under the relevant sections
  • Please note that the maximum file size for your PHF is 5MB

  • If you are an external applicant, click on the job vacancy you are interested in. When you are ready to begin, click on "Apply now" button. The system will take you to the application form page. Register as a new user or log in with your user ID (email address). If you have applied previously to an IFAD position using the online application form, you may access your existing account and proceed to update your information, upload a recent PHF or apply to another position.
  • If you are an internal applicant, please go to the PeopleSoft HR/Payroll on the Intranet and log in with your usual PeopleSoft username and password. Go to Self-service>Careers and select the vacancy you are interested in and apply.

  • Browse the job opportunities that are posted on the IFAD web site and read the full vacancy announcement of the job which interests you. The system will present you with a step-by-step application form.
  • After each step click on "Next" to proceed to the next step. Information fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory. However you are strongly encouraged to fill in all information fields.
  • Press "Save as draft" regularly so as to not lose any inputs.

In addition to the information fields, you will be presented with some questions related to the requirements of the position you are applying to.  You must read ALL the questions carefully and answer them to the best of your ability. If you do not complete the questionnaire, then you will not be able to submit the application.

Review and certify your information and answers. Click on "Submit".


You will immediately receive an automatic no-reply email message confirming your application. If you do not receive this email message, then please review your application process and check that you have completed all the necessary steps including the questionnaire and click on "Submit" again. If you do not receive a confirmation message, it means that your application is not complete and therefore cannot be considered.

Important! If you would like to add a cover letter, please paste it in the "motivation in applying to IFAD and to the specific position" section on the first page of the PHF.

Once submitted, you will be able to modify only your contact information. Only the short-listed applicants will be contacted to provide additional information and an interview.

Difficulty with the system

Should you have technical difficulties in completing the online application form, you may wish to try again using an alternate browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.). If the problem persists, please contact us at indicating the job opening number and position title in the subject line and a short description or screen shot of the system error you encountered. We will provide you the technical support to complete the online application.

Applicants who have successfully submitted their application will receive an automated response. IFAD will only be able to response to applicants who are short-listed for interview. Candidates who do not receive any feedback within three months should consider their application unsuccessful. Kindly note that applications sent to will not be considered.
