On-Farm Water Management Project

On-Farm Water Management Project

The project area was made up mainly of small-scale farms of less than 5 ha, most of which relied on irrigation. Research had shown that poor watercourse maintenance was affecting the efficiency of the irrigation systems. The project’s objective was to increase agricultural production by improving water management practices. Irrigation channels were rebuilt, improved and cleaned, and demonstration plots were set up to show farmers the benefits of good irrigation maintenance. Local farmers helped implement the project. Land levelling equipment was also provided, along with other materials such as fertilizers and seeds.  The project served as a model for future water management projects replicated in other parts of Pakistan.
