Smallholder and Women's Rural Credit Project

Smallholder and Women’s Rural Credit Project

By restricting lending to those with less than 12.5 ha of land, previous credit projects in Pakistan were able to reach the poorest rural families. Building on the experience of the Small Farmers’ Credit Project, this rural credit project also worked through the Agricultural Development Bank of Pakistan. The project developed new services and lending systems to make credit facilities available to specific target groups of borrowers among the poorest farmers, with even smaller landholdings, and landless people. In particular the project made credit accessible to women, who have considerable responsibility for livestock, poultry, cottage, vegetable and other farming sectors.
