Agriculture Modernization, Market Access and Resilience Project

This project aims to raise the incomes of smallholder farmers and increase their climate resilience. It does this through public and private investments in upgrading climate-proof productive infrastructure, enterprises and smallholder farmer production systems and technologies in support of inclusive growth of climate smart agricultural value chains.

AMMAR is part of the Ministry of Agriculture's substantial ongoing investments to modernize agriculture in Georgia and is fully aligned with the Strategy for Agricultural Development (2015-2020). The overall investment of US$30.8 million includes and IFAD loan of US$13.3 million, an IFAD grant of US$500,000 and a US$5.3 million grant from the Global Environment Facility. The Government of Georgia is contributing US$1.8 million and expects to generate further cofinancing of about US$3.9 million from farmers and US$5.9 million from agribusinesses.

The project is expected to achieve the following objectives:

  • 20 per cent increase in real net household farm incomes for more than 10,000 households in target value chains
  • 20 per cent increase (relative to reference market prices) in the total value of surplus agricultural production of targeted products sold by participating producers, traders and agribusinesses
  • 50 per cent of trained smallholder producers adopting one or more of the climate-smart good agricultural practices or technologies promoted by the project, such as efficient irrigation technologies.
