Western Savannah Project - Phase II

Western Savannah Project – Phase II

The project targeted the province of South Darfur, an area particularly vulnerable to drought, where the resource base has been overtaxed by the influx of refugees from neighbouring countries.

The project's overall objective was to improve the living standards of people in the area affected by drought by arresting the degradation of natural resources and improving farming methods.
Specifically the project focused on:

  • providing safe water supplies
  • improving the productivity and sustainability of agriculture
  • introducing more secure forms of land tenure and grazing rights
