National Agricultural Research and Extension Programmes Support Project (PNVRA)

This World Bank-initiated project was a follow-up to a pilot phase supported by the World Bank. Its objective was to increase productivity of small-scale farmers, particularly resource-poor and women farmers, by promoting their use of economically and ecologically sustainable technologies. The project supported the efforts of the Government of Cameroon to boost national agricultural advisory services and encourage the transfer of agricultural technologies.

Activities consolidated links between research and extension to make the agricultural research project more effective by rehabilitating the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD), training research staff and ensuring adequate resources for the research activities of field stations. Project activities were related to developing commodity systems for products such as maize and cassava, and to encouraging partnership arrangements between farmers and other participants in the public and private sectors.
