Irrigation, Rural Livelihoods and Agricultural Development Project

The project, co-financed with the World Bank, seeks to increase the incomes and agricultural productivity of poor small-scale farmers.

In response to the current food crisis in the country, the project provides farmers with seeds and fertilizer to restore agricultural production. To reduce the risks associated with rainfed farming, the project also supports rehabilitation and development of new irrigation systems, reservoirs and rainwater harvesting structures.

Farmers gain access to support services that enable them to improve marketing of their produce. The project also aims to strengthen local government institutions and support capacity building for farmers and their organizations.

Interventions also focus on the development of small-scale and mini-scale irrigation schemes.
