Joanna Veltri

Joanna Veltri is the chief of IFAD's Americas Liaison Office (ALO), which is responsible for IFAD engagement and partnerships with governmental, legislative, civil society, philanthropic, and private sector entities in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, as well as with multilateral organizations (including other United Nations bodies, multilateral development banks, and the IMF).

Veltri joined IFAD in March 2019 after nearly 18 years at the United States Treasury Department's International Affairs (IA) division. Most recently, she served as Director of the International Development Policy (IDP) office, where she led a team focused on development issues – including food security, low-income countries (LICs), LIC debt issues, financial inclusion, gender, domestic revenue mobilization, environment finance, and corruption.

In prior assignments at the U.S. Treasury, Veltri served as Treasury's Representative to the Paris Club group of sovereign creditors; as Senior Advisor in IA's Office of International Monetary Policy, including a stint as a part-time secondee to the Turkish Treasury in Ankara, supporting the Turkish G-20 presidency in 2015; on detail as the Senior Advisor to the U.S. Executive Director on the Board at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); and as the first U.S. Treasury Financial Attaché in Afghanistan. Veltri also served as Senior Economic Advisor to the Finance Minister of Afghanistan.

Veltri has a Bachelor degree in linguistics from Harvard College, and a Master’s in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 2001.
