Justice for food systems workers globally

Despite feeding the world, the people who work in the food system—every step from field to plate—are often themselves poor and hungry. They also face poor health and safety conditions, and lack labour and social protection.

Crises, like conflict and climate change, have exposed the fragility of our food systems and exacerbated the poor working conditions endured by agri-food workers. Now is the time to develop new and effective strategies for just and sustainable workplaces.

The Decent Work for Equitable Food Systems Coalition aims to ensure economic and social justice, and the right to adequate and nutritious food for all food systems workers. It will do so by promoting labour and human rights, and acknowledging the need for decent employment within the agri-food sector, including earning a living wage.

The Coalition is co-hosted by IFAD, the International Labour Organisation and CARE International.
