Unlocking the power of partnership
IFAD connects producers, the private sector, foundations, governments and other players in the agricultural and rural sectors so that everyone benefits.
Through strategic partnership, we invest in rural development and broker partnerships among the diverse parties working in development, and for South-South and triangular cooperation.
We also collaborate with a number of research institutions to promote innovation, and then bring this knowledge into the programmes and projects we support.
IFAD is continuously building relationships with a broad range of groups to ensure the greatest collective support reaches rural communities. These relationships are central for IFAD to deliver on its mission and achieve impact at scale and contribute as a partner to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

United Nations agencies
IFAD is both a specialized United Nations agency and an international financial institution (IFI). This unique identity allows us to consistently deliver results on the ground and in the policy arena that benefit rural communities. IFAD has a special relationship with the two other Rome-based UN agencies – the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) – with which we share a common vision of reducing poverty and promoting food security through sustainable agriculture. The UN also has a number of programmes and funds with whom IFAD has formalized relations.
