Nicaragua: Adapting to Markets and Climate Change Project

Nicaragua is among the ten countries with the highest vulnerability to extreme weather events globally. Increases in temperature threaten the production of coffee and cocoa, which account for a large portion of employment in rural Nicaragua.

The Adapting to Markets and Climate Change project influenced national policy for early warning and climate information for coffee and cocoa. Coffee and cocoa cooperatives were connected with the private sector. Certification of farms and products enabled access to markets, with 90 per cent of produce exported to Ritter Sport.
