Overweight and Obesity and its linkages to food systems in LMICs

Overweight and obesity affect one in four people in low-income countries, with diet quality being linked to the food system, including agriculture.

This webinar will discuss overweight and obesity in rural areas of developing countries, focusing on food systems. The findings from an IFAD study with Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation will be presented, including:

A literature review identifying the drivers of overweight and obesity, as well as interventions and policies targeting them using the sustainable food systems framework (HLPE, 2020);
A country mapping report including Bolivia, Egypt, Indonesia, Nigeria and Zambia;
An IFAD Research Paper summarising the key findings.

Professor Boyd Swinburn will deliver a keynote presentation, which will be followed by a panel discussion about regional experiences on possible interventions and policy actions.

The webinar will be in English with interpretation in French.
