National Smallholders Support Programme

The programme was designed to assist smallholders who benefited from land distribution after the privatization of agriculture, as well as to provide support to already established smallholders. The objective was to improve their incomes and standards of living.

IFAD fund supported a wide range of programme activities, which included:

  • support for strengthening smallholders’ associations
  • research activities and farmers’ training
  • distribution of inputs such as seeds and fertilizers, and diversification and commercialization of agricultural products
  • savings and credit services
  • rehabilitation and construction of infrastructure
  • project coordination and management
