Programme to Strengthen Smallholder Resilience to Climate Change

Burkina Faso is a low-income, climate-vulnerable country in the Sahel that has limited natural resources. Its economy and development are both reliant on agriculture, which generates one quarter of the country’s GDP and employs more than six in ten economically active people.

More than four in ten people live below the poverty line and it is the 27th most vulnerable country to climate change in the world.

This programme aims to strengthen the resilience of smallholders living in poverty – particularly women, young persons, persons with disabilities and internally displaced persons – by:

  • strengthening production system resilience;
  • facilitating market access; and
  • monitoring and evaluation and knowledge management.
