Artisanal Fisheries Development Project - Phase II

Artisanal Fisheries Development Project - Phase II

A second phase of this project will consolidate achievements from the first phase. It also aims to:

  • Increase the fish supply through knowledge transfer and training activities to fishermen
  • Promote fish consumption among local people through knowledge dissemination
  • Improve coastal infrastructure, as well as linkages to markets and quality control, for artisanal fishermen
  • Provide financing via new lines of credit
  • Promote fish-related income-generating activities for women.

As it did in its first phase, the project will benefit fishing communities (including fishermen, their crews and families, and local consumers of fish products ) in the areas of Djibouti, Tadjoura and Obock, and the fishing village of Khor Angar. On the consumption side, the target areas are Djibouti, Tadjoura, Obock, Ali Sabieh and Dikhil. About 400 semi-nomadic people will also be involved in this phase.
